Heartburn

WARNING:  This post is slightly icky.
So I have heartburn.  I am convinced it is more of an acid reflux thing than anything else.  I find myself waking up in the night because I have vomited a little.  (see... icky)  I know it's totally gross, and it happens all the time.  I wake up coughing and choking.  If I sleep on my back it seems to help with not vomiting and with the pain/ discomfort.  I have heartburn medication, but it doesn't help with the vomiting in the night.  Perhaps because it's probably acid reflux or something else.  In any case, Whitney has this awesome book.

So probably close to a year ago, I was having an awful time sleeping because of the pain/ discomfort, and I kept vomiting in the night.  The pain was so strong one night that I couldn't sleep at all.  I took two heartburn pills within a couple of hours and had taken one right before bed, but they weren't working.  So I got up and got the book out.  I looked up some info on heartburn and read that peppermint and ginger tea were both helpful.  I had both on hand, so I whipped up a batch.  It took about 20 to 30 minutes to kick in, but it was relief like no other!  The next night I didn't have any pain, and wasn't vomiting in my sleep.  Well recently my heartburn has been acting up.  I have been vomiting in my sleep and waking up coughing and choking.  I had forgotten about the book, but remembered all of the sudden and Whitney made me some peppermint tea with ground ginger in it.  It gives it a little kick, and it's pretty tasty.  This book is amazing.

I also learned an acupressure point for the pain, and it helps any time it creeps up again.  Just in case you are interested, it's right at the end of your sternum, and you just push for about 1 to 2 minutes.  You will notice relief almost instantly! (depending on how bad the pain is)  I am a firm believer in natural healing/ alternative medicine.  It's amazing how much it works!  If you are interested, then check out this book.  There is info for almost anything, well anything I have ever needed help with!  It teaches acupressure and reflexology points.  It tells you what herbal remedies you can use to cure your ailments, and also talks about the possible causes.  One thing I didn't know was that heartburn can be caused by eating to quickly, which I tend to do.  Anyhoo... if you are interested in the book, you can find it here.

I'll have to check that out. I'm all for natural remedies if it means avoiding medication.

My hubby was on meds for years and I got him to start drinking the Aloe they sell from Herbalife and the heartburn issues are gone... I am sure any aloe will do but it works I drink it and it keeps me heartburn free and I eat a lot of spicy foods
However he still sees his GI doctor because you don't want to be messed up in the GI track
